You
can reach SISSA from the airport (Ronchi dei Legionari or
Venice airport) or from the city centre (Trieste):
FROM THE AIRPORT
When arriving by plane, from
the airport,
take the coach to Trieste and ask the driver to let you off
at Grignano.
In the Grignano
area you will find the signposts indicating where
the buildings of the SISSA are.
FROM
THE CITY CENTER
TRAIN
A
few trains make daily stops at Miramare Station, click
here,
a zoom map will show you where the Miramare Station is located.
Most trains, however, only stop at Trieste Rail Station, located
7 km east of the SISSA (see the Italian
Railways site)
Tickets must be purchased at the Rail Station in Trieste. They
are validated by stamping them in the yellow boxes found near
the platforms.
If
you arrive in Trieste by train,
you will need to reach SISSA from downtown Trieste. Click here
(or on the map above), a zoom map will shows you
where the bus stop is, next to the train station (which is called
Trieste Centrale).
Bus or taxi service links the Trieste Rail Station to the SISSA.
BUS
Bus No.
36 will take you to SISSA. When you are in the tunnel
ring the bell to get off the bus (or ask the driver to let you
off at Grignano).
Bus No. 36 runs from Piazza Oberdan in downtown Trieste to Grignano.
The stop before Grignano (when coming from Trieste) is closest
to the Main Building. Bus 36 runs during the day every 20 minutes.
In summer (between June and September), the bus runs more often.
From 21:00 until midnight, Bus
C runs between Piazza Goldoni and Barcola.
Buy the ticket at the news stands or tobacconist inside the
railway station (Euro
0,85). You must purchase your tickets beforehand
and validate them by stamping them in the boxes provided on
the buses.
TAXI
If you wish to take a taxi,
as you reach the end of the platform exit the train station
on the left.

Taxi fares are more expensive at night, holidays and on
runs that take you outside of town.
The SISSA is considered to be outside of town. Fare from the
Rail Station to the SISSA will be at least Euro 8.00. Each piece
of luggage carries an extra charge.
