Howdy all! Nope, you didn't win anything :)
I have been using XCD 1.4.1 on Mac OS X (10.4.2) [many thanks, Tone!]
for awhile. All the usual XCD functions are working great although
I get *** the hardware does not support the stereo *** when it
launches, which appears unimportant. This is SUCH an excellent tool!
[ I installed whirlgif and the fink version of mpeg_encode before
doing a clean install of the BINARY OS X version.] The lines
set xcMisc(whirlgif) /usr/local/bin/whirlgif
set xcMisc(mpeg_encode) /sw/bin/mpeg_encode
dutifully appear in my custom-definitions file (generated by the
xcConfigure script). The executables for whirlgif and mpeg_encode
appear to at least produce help messages. [These are whirlgif Rev
3.04 and fink reports that mpeg_encode is the 1.5b-2 Berkeley MPEG-1
Encoder.]
Alas, when I'm ready to make an mpeg movie, the "Animation Controls"
option is grayed out under the Modify panel.
Any suggestions for what I'm doing wrong or what to do differently?
[I've googled the archives]
Is a build from the XCrysDen source likely to fix the problem?
Thanks!

The "Modify->Animation Controls" menu will be active only when you load
an animated XSF file, i.e. file that has more then one structure.
Try "File->Examples->XSF Files ..." and select the file ANIM.axsf. Is
the "Modify->Animation Controls" menu still disabled?
