Ok, this is some progress, but apparently small, because of the crash.

Does it work if you do the same kind of compilation, but with the
Tcl8.5. Namely, the failure seems to be related to choosing the correct
visual, hence it may be unrelated to Tcl. But if this is so than it will
crash also if compiled with Tcl8.5.
